Engineer and Founder of Growin’ GEERS, Alex McCaffrey is on a mission is to show elementary kids how being an engineer can make a positive impact on the world through the use of STEM concepts and problem solving skills. Working closely with educators and as an engineer well versed in Lean methodologies, Alex has created a program that is effective and efficient in bringing engineering to an elementary audience. Her perseverance and hard work earned her the 2015 Juried Award for Education in this year’s One Spark Crowdfunding Festival for Creators in Art, Education, Health & Science, Music, Social Good, and Technology. Since Growin’ GEERS is still in its early stages, Alex hopes to get it in the hands of educators for feedback to further perfect the design to appeal to teachers and her core audience-- kids.
